About Our GoalLaw enforcement agencies are always looking for ways to protect their officers in the most efficient ways. To ensure the safety of law enforcement officers in hostile situations new devices need to be developed for practical applications. The potential way to secure the safety of officers is to implement drones that have universal features. To provide vital information this drone must be able to enter a building to detect potential threats, fly around building perimeters, and have multiple sensors to send back information such as telemetry, motor temperature, sonar readings, and live images. To create this various features the drone will be created by using 3-D printers, laser cut acrylic, and multiple aviation systems such as NAZA and spektrum. Such a drone has the possibility to become the future for law enforcement agencies by integrating different features. This drone designed and constructed in this project is a hexacopter that has the capability to fly efficiently with a load of multiple sensors, cameras, and send video live over a secure network. Law enforcement agencies will be able to secure the safety of their officers by integrating this new drone, the Guardian Angel, into their existing intelligence operations.

Who AM I |
My name is Ryan Loehrlein and I am the founder and creator of The Guardian Angel. This drone or RPA, or UAV has been a dream in the making for the last year of my life. While I was integrating and creating new technologies for my drone I was also extremely active in the community. I have became an eagle scout, volunteered almost 1000 hours, and been taking rigorous courses as a high school senior. Even though I was extremely busy I still fought to achieve my dream of creating a device that could protect law enforcement agencies. This is one of the many ideas that actually became reality, and this is just the first part of my dream. Time to fly into the next one.

Guardian Angels History |
The Guardian Angel has been created from ten different companies technologies along with my own to create the ultimate drone. But before I was able to start building the drone I went through a rigorous design process to make sure this drone could be successful. It took almost 6 months of planning, sketching, designing, and modeling before I had my first plan to start prototyping. Once the drone was designed I presented it to the Fraternal Order Of Police who generously donated me the funding necessary to build The Guardian Angel. After I obtained funding I started the actual build knowing that my first competition was in 4 months. These 4 months flew by and 2 weeks before the competition I had a working drone. At this competition this drone became a grand award winner, U.S. Air force distinguished award winner, took home 2nd place in the overall competition, and obtained a competitor seat at SEFI hosted in Indianapolis, Indiana. After this competition I knew that my competition would get even hard so the Guardian Angel kept evolving. It got more technologically advanced with GPS, battery advancements, capability to lose three motors in flight, and autonomous flying. All these features were added within a one month span. Once I arrived at SEFI I was scared that my project wasn't good enough to move on to my ultimate dream, International Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by INTEL. I started interviews at SEFI that morning and my very first interview was the scholarship committee which gave me a big boost of confidence, then I had my scheduled judging rounds, followed by grand award judges, and then special awards judges. At this point I felt like I already gained a spot to INTEL ISEF. After all the judging was over I dissembled my poster and drone, and walked over to the award ceremony scared with my heart jumping out of my chest. At thee award ceremony they give everyone a participation medallion, and then the real awards start. They announced all the special awards and I had received nothing and at that point my confidence was dwindling. Then they started to announce the scholarship committees decision. They said, " John and Janet Davis scholarship is presented to.." "RYAN LOEHRLEIN" and I knew that all my hard work paid off. I didn't even care if i didn't make it to ISEF because I won money to further my education. Then they started to announce who was moving on to ISEF... there were only 20 seats to compete. They announced 19 of the twenty names in no specific order, and then they announced the 20th name. I stood up with my heart beating so hard and my hands shaking so bad that I probably looked like a fool claiming that 20th seat, but it was one of the best experiences in my life. At that moment I knew I finally achieved the dream so many told me I couldn't, and that was to take the Guardian Angel to INTEL ISEF.
